Fishroom and Site News

This Is a new section on what is happening in my fishroom.

9/18/09: I'm finally starting to re-model my site. About time. I promise when my new site is up ad running ,I won't let this section be forgotten like it has in the past. Wow, 4 months since my last entry! I promise I'll keep up with this and keep everyone informed about what is happening in Sam's world of cichlids.

5/9/08: Wow. Talk about not keeping up with a section of the site. My bad. Anyway, the fishroom has stayed the same. With the pressure cells coming through this week, I had an awesome week in the fishroom. Many fish spawned for me, including my Varibilichromis moori, Ps. sp. "Elongatus chailosi", Steatocranus casuarius, Oreochromis mossambicus, Aequedens portulagrensis, and my Nandopsis salvani.

12/25/07: I'm for protecting the species that are dear to us in the hobby, so I added a new part to the species profiles, IUCN Red List info. Below the species info, you can see the status of fish that are currently, vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, or extinct in the wild. Happy Holidays.

12/22/07: Started the Article section of my site.

11/30/07: Got my Amphilophus amarillo and my Snooks on a spawn. Also got my stomotepia marie holding. So far my new fishroom is running well.

10/11/07: Getting ready to bring my new tanks in. Got a 110 and 75 acrylic. They will soon be on a stand Mike Delich is building for me. Thanks Mike.

3/15/07: Got some new profiles up. Check out the Paralabidochromis chilotes, Hap. sp. "Green Bloyeti", and the Maylandia lanisticola.

3/14/07: My Hap "44"s are holding, and my panamense bred. I'm getting a breeding group of Oreochromis esculantis from Mike Helford. Hopefully I can breed this fish because they are extinct in the wild.

2/2/07: My Bolivian Rams spawned, and the eggs are about to hatch. They are being great parents, so I'll leave them with the eggs. They laid about 40 eggs on a piece of orange drain tile. They camouflage in great. I also started re-modeling my web site. I hope to have it up and running soon.

1/31/07: Good week. Super Bowl with Da Bears, and my fish bred. Both my Rusty Cichlids, and my Electric Blues are holding. Last week I picked some fish up at the auction. I bought two pairs of Bolivian Rams, and I got a breeder trio of Gephyrochromis moorii from Mike Helford.

1/7/07: Set up my new tanks I got from Chuck Templeton. Thanks Chuck, they are looking good.

1/6/07: I was working at King Coral and a man came in and said he had fish that he no longer could keep because they were to big. He gave them to the shop. In the bucket were a pair of Green Terrors. He said they bred every two weeks. I wound up getting the pair. They are actually the aequedens Sp. "Silver Saum" or "False Green Terror". The male is beautiful and show quality. Hopefully they breed soon.

1/5/07: If you are a member of the American Cichlid Association, expect my article on Neetroplus nematopus to be in an upcoming BB.

11/18/06: King Coral Pet Shop is now open. it is on 1512 N. Elmhurst Rd. in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. It is located inside Colony Court Shopping Center. They have a wide variety of Cichlids , old world and new world, and strange, exotic plecos and catfish. We also do Salt Water and Reptiles.

10/23/06: Picked up two weird sized tanks for my new fish room from Chuck Templeton. They are about 58 gallons each.

10/22/06: I am now an employee at King Coral Pet Shop in Mount Prospect, Illinois. We hope to be open at the beginning of November.

10/22/06: At the GCCA auction I got some Labidochromis pallidus from Mike Helford, and bought a pair of Port Cichlids.
